📋 Description

• Design, evaluate, and integrate electrical and electronic systems for marine vessels, including power generation, propulsion, lighting, navigation, and communication systems • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable marine regulations and standards, including CFRs, IMO, ABS, DNV, IEC, and SOLAS • Support new vessel design and existing vessel refurbishment and modifications • Lead root-cause analysis and diagnostics for complex electrical system issues on new builds and existing vessels • Develop and implement corrective actions, upgrades, and system optimizations • Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, shipbuilders, and third-party vendors • Prepare specifications, schematics, reports, and progress updates • Review and comment on detail designs submitted by shipyard contractors • Conduct inspections and verifications for regulatory, safety, and classification society compliance • Prepare documentation for approval, certification, and audits • Stay current with marine electrification, hybrid propulsion, and energy-efficiency technologies • Travel to perform onsite vessel inspections

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum eight years of experience within the maritime industry, providing electrical design support • Bachelor of Science degree from ABET accredited curriculum • Professional Engineer's License (PE) preferred or plans to become licensed • Strong knowledge of marine construction, ship repair, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks • Proven capability in shipyard and marine operations • AutoCAD and MS Office skills • Familiarity with Rhino favorable • Ability to perform onsite ship inspections • Maintain membership with SNAME, ASME, ASCE, or IEEE • Experience in vessel system design including power distribution, lighting, receptacle layouts, and DC power systems with minimal oversight • Experience integrating vendor-provided systems into overall vessel design, including electric propulsion, alarm and monitoring, internal communications, fire detection, navigation and external communication, and navigation light systems, with minimal oversight • Conceptual understanding of marine mechanical systems including fluid handling, mechanical propulsion components, hydraulics, and HVAC • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with solid reasoning • Detail-oriented with ability to interpret data and develop design solutions • Proficient in technical research, reporting, and clear written communication • Effective team player able to work independently • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to present technical ideas clearly • Flexibility to travel by car, plane, and vessel • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and conduct physical tasks in varied environmental conditions during vessel inspections
