• Independently conduct extensive and detailed investigations to determine the origin and cause of fires and explosions • Investigate large loss, large fire loss, multiple claims, and suspected insurance fraud claims • Investigate sites and provide expert testimony in depositions and trials • Report assigned cases to requesting parties according to best practices • Maintain confidential claims files and document relevant facts in claims handling systems • Keep management informed of developments affecting claims results • Review investigations and recommend outcomes promptly • Provide guidance and recommendations to claims leadership and associates on claims resolution • Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies and private information bureaus • Identify and interview witnesses and involved persons • Conclude investigations independently and determine negligence and violations of laws • Inspect public records, including deeds, mortgages, liens, suits, judgments, and marriage and divorce records • Maintain technical competency regarding applicable laws, privacy rights, and public-record availability • Provide investigative guidance to Fire Investigator team members when needed • Support quality programs and travel as required
• NAFI-CFEI certification required at minimum • Five years of fire investigation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred • IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification preferred • Strong oral and written communication skills • PC literate, including advanced Microsoft Office products • Strong organizational and time management skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Good analytical and interpretive skills • Strong investigative skills • Attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to work independently or in a team environment • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods • Ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, stoop, reach, and work overhead • Ability to work outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds • Ability to push and pull up to 100 pounds • Ability to drive up to four hours per day • Willingness to travel as required
