• Appraise material damage claims and total losses as received by assignment • Negotiate claim settlements and dispose of salvage • Arrange vehicle inspections and drive to accident or damage sites within the assigned territory • Photograph damaged areas, write estimates, determine rental needs, and control rental costs according to company guidelines • Negotiate repair costs, establish values, settle total losses, and handle salvage disposal • Distinguish the cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage • Issue settlement checks and maintain appropriate records • Respond to policyholder and claimant complaints arising from the original adjustment • Establish rapport with agents and claims adjusters • Evaluate antique and classic cars for coverage value at Underwriting’s request • Attend appropriate training sessions • Serve on the Catastrophe Team, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two weeks
• High school diploma or GED required • Five years of experience in a body shop or insurance claims adjusting, including estimate-writing experience, required • Experience with The ERIE preferred • Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company • Must serve on the Catastrophe Team and be able to travel on short notice to other locations for periods exceeding two weeks • Completion of General Insurance program preferred • Appropriate license as required by state • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required • Strong organizational skills • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting-aide equipment • Ability to perform occasional climbing/accessing heights, lifting/moving, pushing/pulling, manual keying/data entry, and computer use
