• Develop, update, and evaluate health communication materials and strategies related to foodborne, waterborne, environmental, fungal, and parasitic diseases • Create electronic and print materials for public health professionals, healthcare providers, and consumer audiences, including fact sheets, newsletters, web pages, social media content, and slide decks • Develop internal communication materials, including newsletters, intranet content, organizational charts, and leadership emails • Coordinate content development and clearance with internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with graphic design staff • Provide technical assistance for communication and public affairs needs, including CDC resources at conferences through exhibits, posters, and presentations • Plan division meeting agendas, prepare slides, and provide technical support for web-based and in-person meetings • Review web requests, coordinate with web developers, and help implement improvements and resolve technical issues • Review and maintain web content for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with CDC standards • Follow up on inquiries, information requests, and clearance needs between subject matter experts and the communications team • Review materials for target audiences and identify content gaps or tailoring needs • Develop research questions and incorporate formative or summative research findings into communication products • Ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility requirements and perform initial remediation • Develop and disseminate scientific and public health information products, including during emergency activations • Create dissemination plans, select channels, track and report metrics, and adjust strategies based on evaluation results • Compile and analyze communication metrics and program evaluation data and present findings to staff and leadership • Manage social media activities, including content writing, calendars, editing, and publication on CDC channels • Monitor social media best practices and recommend improvements • Create and distribute internal and external newsletters using CDC newsletter software • Provide surge capacity during activations, outbreaks, and public health emergencies • Develop crisis communication products and strategies, potentially working in CDC's Emergency Operations Center
• Experience developing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders • Experience working on multi-component communications campaigns, including message and materials development, dissemination, earned media, digital/social media, and partnership development • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong content development experience and ability to write in plain language • Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail • Ability to learn and collaborate with communications and program teams • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment • Interest in learning complex public health issues, including infectious diseases and outbreak response • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
