Feanix is a farm-focused biotech and software company that automates genetic and herd-management decisions for dairy operations. Its Autopilot product combines whole-genome sequencing, herd-management data (DairyComp, milk records, feed, health, activity monitors), and farm-specific economics into a machine-learning prediction engine that prices every cow on the farm’s actual economics. Autopilot converts trillions of datapoints into ranked, actionable recommendations (breed, beef, DNB, sell, cull, watchlist) that sync into existing farm systems and prioritize profit rather than generic genetic rankings. The platform is built to reduce low-value replacements, improve semen allocation, maintain herd-size targets, and accelerate economic gain for farms.

📋 Description

• Build and operate Feanix’s production genomics pipeline from sample through sequencing, alignment, imputation, genotyping, and parentage/trait results • Automate pipeline scheduling and triggering with retries, version pinning, alerting, CI, monitoring, and reproducible workflows • Lead development of an authoritative sample-state ledger tracking each sample’s processing status and failure reason • Move parentage fleet runs onto scheduled execution with completion and lateness alerts • Partner with infrastructure engineering to bring genomics repositories onto CI and deployment systems • Manage sequencing compute and storage costs, including lifecycle policies for hundreds of terabytes • Own lab and vendor data intake from in-house sequencing, external labs, and genotyping-chip providers • Make breeding-value model training runnable and repeatable • Establish engineering standards for genomics as the team grows • Collaborate with the founding genomics engineer, scientists, infrastructure engineers, and other engineers • Participate in weekly on-call and triage rotation • Travel 15–20%, including commercial dairy visits and headquarters visits

🎯 Requirements

• Several years running scientific or bioinformatics pipelines in production, including scheduled, monitored pipelines depended on by others • Fluency in genomic data formats and tools: FASTQ/BAM/VCF, PLINK, imputation (GLIMPSE, Beagle, or similar), coverage and QC metrics • Experience building sample tracking, LIMS-like state, or similar item-state systems • Strong Python • Comfort with S3-scale data, idempotent pipelines, retries, and alerting • Cost awareness with large data, including storage lifecycle and compute spend per unit • Experience working alongside scientists and translating methods into reliable systems • Daily, load-bearing use of coding agents and a well-developed view of their limitations • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States • Unable to offer visa sponsorship or transfers • Preferred: livestock, plant, or human population genomics • Preferred: parentage or pedigree work, including SNP-based parentage verification, kinship, or reconciling pedigrees with genotypes • Preferred: production experience with genotype imputation or sequencing pipelines • Preferred: genomic prediction (GBLUP and relatives) • Preferred: LIMS or sample-tracking integration with a wet lab • Preferred: supporting a small team through rapid growth • Preferred: experience at a sequencing lab or genomics service company • Preferred: Terraform/OpenTofu • Agriculture experience is not required
