Foundation Fighting Blindness is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to funding and driving research into retinal degenerative diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Leber congenital amaurosis, Usher syndrome and related rare retinal conditions. The Foundation supports scientific research and clinical trials, awards grants to investigators and institutions, runs patient registries and genetic testing programs, and raises funds through community chapters and events like VisionWalk to accelerate development of preventions, treatments and cures. It also provides resources and support for people living with vision loss and partners with corporate donors and researchers to advance therapies.

📋 Description

• Plan and carry out fundraising strategies to grow revenue year over year across assigned communities • Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, donors, local businesses, sponsors, and community partners • Work with volunteer committees to plan and execute fundraising events and activities • Partner with the Regional Director and internal teams to set territory priorities, milestones, and success measures • Recruit, support, and motivate volunteer leaders • Serve as the Foundation’s primary community representative, sharing resources, building awareness, and communicating scientific progress • Use the donor database to track engagement, assess giving potential, support outreach, and inform fundraising decisions • Tailor approaches to each community’s strengths and needs • Manage community materials and resources for events and local engagement • Develop sufficient scientific understanding to explain the Foundation’s work and its impact on individuals and families

🎯 Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in fundraising, community engagement, development, volunteer management, or a related nonprofit role • Demonstrated success meeting or growing revenue goals through individual giving, corporate sponsorships, peer-to-peer fundraising, or event-based fundraising • Strong relationship-building ability with volunteers, donors, community partners, and local businesses • Experience recruiting, supporting, and working with volunteer leaders, committees, or chapter-based volunteers • Comfortable serving as a visible, public-facing community representative • Ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and events across a defined territory • Experience using a donor database or CRM such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar • Clear and compassionate communication skills for explaining complex information accessibly • Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal teams in a remote environment • Willingness to learn and communicate scientific or technical information at a high level • Comfortable with regular regional travel and occasional evening or weekend event work • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Zoom, databases, and calendars • Experience with chapter-based or volunteer-led networks preferred
