📋 Description

• Defend arbitrations and lawsuits filed in New York and handle other first-party insurance defense matters • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda • Render opinions on coverage, medical necessity/causation, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department • Prepare and handle arbitration submissions and examinations under oath • Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable • Travel as required to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences

🎯 Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in litigation REQUIRED • Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED • Admission to the New York Bar REQUIRED • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable • Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences • Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information • Civil litigation experience preferred • Insurance defense-related litigation experience and/or personal injury preferred • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone and written correspondence/email • At this time, GEICO will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position
