📋 Description

• Build, manage, and mentor a globally distributed engineering team • Hire, onboard, and develop engineers while maintaining quality, accountability, and psychological safety • Partner with product management, product design, and cross-functional engineering teams to align technical direction and roadmaps • Guide engineers on system architecture, code quality, performance, security, and maintainability across frontend and backend disciplines • Manage agile, remote, and asynchronous workflows and address blockers, backlogs, and delayed execution • Integrate AI capabilities and modern developer tooling into daily workflows • Conduct one-on-ones, provide feedback, and support career progression through coaching and skill development • Monitor operational health and reliability and participate in availability and incident management rotations as needed • Support GitLab’s Core DevOps team, which owns repository capabilities including Git command-line operations and web-based code exploration

🎯 Requirements

• Experience managing engineering teams, providing architectural guidance and technical mentorship, and building team accountability • Background in enterprise software development, distributed systems, and software delivery pipelines • Experience aligning stakeholders across product, design, engineering, and infrastructure • Track record of establishing effective engineering processes and managing delivery execution • Strong written and verbal communication skills in remote-first, asynchronous, and globally distributed environments • Commitment to building inclusive, psychologically safe team cultures • Experience using AI-assisted tools and modern software workflows • Ability to incorporate AI into daily workflows • Must be eligible to work in Canada or the United States based on the listed location eligibility
