📋 Description

• Support the Director of Finance with GFNE’s grant and fund accounting • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for the external accounting firm • Make fund and grant coding decisions and quality-check the firm’s accounting output • Track grant budgets against actual expenditures and prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses • Confirm consistent application of indirect cost rates and cost allocation methods • Monitor grant spending timelines and flag under-spending, over-spending, no-cost extension needs, and budget modifications • Maintain organized, audit-ready grant files • Provide coded transactions, approvals, and supporting documentation for journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications • Review bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve open items • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable coding and approval routing • Review monthly financial statements segmented by fund and program • Coordinate source documents and follow up on open items to keep the monthly close, audit, and funder deadlines on schedule • Coordinate the annual audit and any single audit among the firm, auditors, and GFNE program staff • Prepare audit-ready schedules and respond to routine auditor requests • Support Form 990 and related annual filings • Help improve internal controls and accounting policies • Use accounting and grants management systems, attend finance meetings, and support program and development staff with budget and funding questions • Prepare or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial deliverables according to the stated reporting schedule

🎯 Requirements

• Around 5 or more years of accounting experience • Strong grounding in grant and fund accounting • Nonprofit-sector experience, including restricted and unrestricted fund accounting and funder reporting • Working knowledge of US nonprofit accounting standards and Form 990 • Familiarity with single audit requirements is an advantage • Comfort working with an external accounting firm and coordinating a monthly close and annual audit • Proficiency with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online • Comfort with grants management tools • Comfort working within a remote, globally distributed team across multiple time zones • Strong communication, coordination, and collaboration skills • Exceptional attention to detail and disciplined follow-up and follow-through • Self-directed and well organized, able to manage a steady workload with moderate supervision • Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive financial, donor, and personnel information • A relevant accounting qualification such as CPA or ACCA is an advantage, not a requirement • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality throughout and after the engagement
