• Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Specialty accounts • Drive profitable growth aligned with industry segments, appetite, and mix goals • Provide insurance solutions using advanced technical, sales, and analytical skills • Manage an assigned, technically complex book of business within broad underwriting authority • Apply risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, coverage analysis, loss analysis, pricing, rating methodology, and CAT aggregation strategies • Explain coverages, exposures, and controls to agents • Manage portfolio goals including premium, profitability, rate, retention, industry and line-of-business mix, new business, and portfolio management • Build profitable relationships with agencies, internal management, and external resources • Construct and execute portfolio business plans and special projects • Review metrics, identify trends, and uncover new business opportunities • Drive profit improvement initiatives with key agents • Coordinate with Specialty departments on cross-sell opportunities • Identify enhanced sales opportunities across lines of business and customer segments • Manage producer relationships, negotiations, customer stewardship, and territory business plans • Provide training and product knowledge transfer to agents • Make regular sales presentations to agents and customers • Uncover customer needs, position solutions, handle objections, and close deals • Report to the Leader of the Financial Institutions practice
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience • 5-7 years underwriting Financial Institutions with a focus on asset managers, including registered investment advisers (RIAs), private fund managers, and other investment management firms • 5-7+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business • Proficiency across LOB underwriting core competencies; may specialize/certify in 1-2 specialty areas • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects • Ability to collaborate on complex risks, pricing, trends, industry segments, coverages, and product knowledge • Ability to adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and advocate for change • Informal leadership ability and willingness to share knowledge and mentor less experienced or newly hired underwriters • Confident communication with internal and external business partners • Ability to exercise judgment, negotiate, and make sound business decisions within level of authority • Ability to foster collaboration and respect among team members • Equivalent experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree
