📋 Description

• Own the operating system of Engine’s accounting function, including talent, close integrity, controls, and automation • Create a clearer and more accountable Accounting operating model • Build a high-performing Accounting leadership team and improve talent density • Scale AI and automation across Accounting with Systems and cross-functional teams • Modernize the existing 5-day close and strengthen ownership across revenue, AR, payroll, tax, consolidations, reconciliations, and reporting • Make senior decisions on complex accounting and operational issues • Drive cross-functional execution across Product, Finance, Tax, Legal, Credit, Fraud, Sales, People, and Systems • Prepare Accounting systems, processes, leadership depth, and controls for increased transaction volume, new revenue streams, international expansion, card receivables, rewards, supplier economics, intercompany activity, and FX • Deliver measurable improvements in capacity, accuracy, cycle time, issue resolution, and complexity absorption within 6–12 months

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive accounting leadership, including Controller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent responsibility in a high-growth environment • CPA strongly preferred • Proven history of improving an established accounting function • Proven ability to improve the talent bar, develop teams, and build leadership depth • AI-native, automation-forward operating style with demonstrated success reducing manual work and creating measurable operating leverage • Strong multi-entity close, consolidation, reconciliation, and financial statement experience • Technical accounting depth across ASC 606, including gross-versus-net and principal-agent analysis, ASC 842, ASC 718, reserves, and other judgment-heavy areas • Strong judgment and decisive pace; ability to make calls with incomplete information while staying close to execution • Nice-to-have: travel, marketplace, fintech, payments, card-program, or high-volume transaction accounting experience • Nice-to-have: card receivables, rewards, supplier economics, merchant and agency models, or complex revenue streams • Nice-to-have: international experience, including intercompany, FX, VAT/GST, transfer-pricing support, or statutory reporting • Nice-to-have: NetSuite and modern close, reconciliation, workflow, BI, automation, and AI tools
