Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is a US 501(c)(3) charitable organization launched in 2010 that promotes and supports volunteers and local groups globally in building OpenStreetMap, with a focus on humanitarian mapping to aid in disaster relief, preparedness, and economic development. HOT connects the OpenStreetMap community with traditional humanitarian responders and sponsors the development of open source tools for the community while providing training and support for data collection efforts. The organization is committed to using open data and software principles for humanitarian response and fostering local mapping communities.

📋 Description

• Support the end-of-year annual planning process • Coordinate projects in Asana • Support project finance staff with their duties • Manage regular internal staff communications • Facilitate after-action reviews and integrate feedback • Support project and program leads throughout the year • Ensure proper project start-up and close-out procedures, including Asana project plans, budgeting, and communications plans • Serve as the organization’s main point of contact for Asana • Answer Asana questions and troubleshoot issues • Work with Operations and the Portfolio Team to ensure optimal Asana use • Lead annual and ad hoc staff training on Asana • Potentially reinstitute the Asana Advisory Council • Support the Operating Model refresh, especially infrastructure tools and practices • Provide surge support for travel and physical security needs • Develop safety and security protocols • Support travel booking and visa documentation • Update existing tools and processes • Perform other responsibilities as needed

🎯 Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience • Field project work experience • Fluency in English • Lived experience working in Asia, Latin America/Caribbean and/or Africa • Experience running training sessions, workshops or teaching • Knowledge of and experience in best budget management practices • Experience in project coordination including direct use of Asana or another project management software • Experience supporting complex travel, such as large-scale travel or challenging security profiles • Clear written communication style, including the ability to write clear, concise, and actionable internal communications • Proven ability to work independently and lead activities • Demonstrated versatility and integrity • Demonstrated understanding of open source and open data culture and ethos across cultural contexts • Passionate and motivated about open source and open data • Prior professional experience demonstrating care about humanitarian, disaster resilience, and development work • Previous work or volunteer experience with HOT • Experience with OpenStreetMap tools, such as JOSM and iD, and QGIS • Experience in GIS and spatial data analysis, including remote sensing and imagery • Experience with donor relations, including reporting and deliverable requirements • Fluency in multiple languages • University or college degree in a relevant field, or demonstrated equivalent humanitarian-related experience (desirable)
