• Assist house counsel with pre-trial tasks • Draft responses, motions, briefs, pleadings, appeals, letters, and other legal documents • Conduct legal research and gather information for claim cases • Prepare and respond to discovery, including interrogatories, requests for admissions, and document inspections • Correspond with clients, attorneys, claims personnel, and other parties regarding case status and legal procedures • Obtain extensions and ensure objections and responses are timely and proper • File pleadings, prepare affidavits of documents, and maintain digital case files • Prepare administrative reports, including initial opinions, discovery summaries, medical record summaries, and pre- and post-trial reports • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibits, trial books, motions in limine, expert witness lists, and statements of the case • Research statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, depositions, legal codes, case law, vehicle valuation, medical treatment, aerial maps, and policy language • Investigate facts and causes of action • Assist insureds in Small Claims cases by preparing trial briefs, preparing insureds for trial, attending trials, and defending the company when named • Collect and evaluate file evidence and prepare for hearings • Prioritize and reprioritize tasks to complete assignments promptly
• Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; or qualifying postsecondary paralegal/legal-course credential; or BA/advanced degree with qualifying law-related experience and attorney declaration; or high school diploma/GED with qualifying law-related experience and attorney declaration • Minimum: 0-2 years insurance defense paralegal experience and/or equivalent insurance defense litigation experience • General knowledge of legal principles, terminology and procedures • Written communication skill to draft legal documents supporting and responding to discovery, depositions, and motions • Ability to proof and edit documents for accuracy • Ability to work in a paperless environment • Ability to correspond effectively with clients, attorneys and other involved parties • Knowledge and proficiency in word processing and case management software • Completion of 4 hours of continuing education or required hours of education in compliance with State rules
