• Develop and execute California strategies advancing solar, distributed energy resources, storage, affordability, grid modernization and energy justice priorities • Advise on state-level legislation creating opportunities for solar, storage and distributed energy resources • Support policy positions and campaign strategies informed by partners, technical expertise and community priorities • Shape California’s long-term policy and political strategy with the Deputy Program Director • Align legislative, regulatory and campaign strategies with the Regulatory Director • Lobby, testify and educate lawmakers • Manage and support California campaign staff, including the Regulatory Director • Foster staff growth, leadership development, accountability, trust, belonging, collaboration and psychological safety • Provide strategic guidance, coaching and support to staff managing California campaigns and partnerships • Build and collaborate with stakeholder coalitions, including frontline communities, environmental justice advocates, consumer advocates, energy efficiency proponents, solar and energy storage developers and electric vehicle advocates • Continue personal learning and contribute to organizational diversity, equity and inclusion work • Embed equity in organizational internal practices and culture • Collaborate on personal, professional and organization-wide learning regarding race, class, gender, justice and equity • Report to the Deputy Program Director for the West and coordinate with California regulatory, communications and grassroots organizing staff
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field • Seven plus years of relevant work experience, including experience in regulatory oversight, research or advocacy • Demonstrated ability to execute advocacy strategies, including direct lobbying, policy analysis, coalition building and policy writing that summarizes complex issues for the interested public • Understanding of California’s energy landscape, including solar, storage, distributed energy resources, grid modernization, utility regulation and emerging clean energy opportunities • Experience managing, mentoring or developing staff and building collaborative, high-performing teams • Familiarity with California regulatory processes, including the California Public Utilities Commission, California Energy Commission and/or California Independent System Operator • Ability to work with team members on data visualization and policy communications to the public • Effective collaboration with diverse populations and allies • Commitment to an inclusive and just workplace and to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
