• Build and update fuel thermal-mechanical models consistent with SMR product design and licensing basis • Maintain analysis models and document results in engineering reports, calculations, studies, and other deliverables • Perform fuel thermal-mechanical evaluations using licensed methods for design, safety evaluations, and reload assessments • Evaluate cladding strain, pellet-cladding mechanical interaction, gap conductance, fuel rod dimensional changes, stress/strain behavior, and end-of-life margins • Prepare cycle-specific thermal-mechanical outputs for reload core design and safety analysis • Maintain consistency among thermal-mechanical evaluations, thermal-hydraulic boundary conditions, neutronic inputs, and licensing-basis documentation • Interpret neutronics evaluations for core performance and fuel design impacts • Assess power distributions, reactivity parameters, peaking factors, and other physics inputs • Perform cross-functional reviews of fuel-related content and impacts • Support Nuclear Fuels and Engineering disciplines with technical interface inputs • Perform core design and neutronics analysis for cycle design and reloads, including lattice physics generation and core loading optimization • Support safety-related physics inputs for engineering design, analysis interfaces, and licensing • Support advanced fuel thermal-mechanical method development under senior staff guidance • Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and design documents • Develop technical depth in fuel performance, neutronics, thermal-hydraulic integration, and associated codes and methods • Resolve challenging problems using creativity and innovation • Flexibly support urgent analyses, cross-functional reviews, technical troubleshooting, and special studies • Perform other duties as assigned
• Minimum B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from a four-year accredited college or university • Minimum 3 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience • Demonstrated experience implementing engineering design processes for fuel thermal-mechanical analysis • Practical knowledge of or experience with PWR reactor physics analyses • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 • Experience in core design and neutronics preferred • Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering desirable • Knowledge and implementation of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using phones, personal interaction, and computers • Ability to learn new job functions and apply new concepts accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
