• Report to the Manager, Thermal Hydraulics • Collaborate with Nuclear Methods, Nuclear Design, Code Development, Engineering, and Operations teams • Execute and review system-level thermal-hydraulic evaluations using RELAP • Execute and review subchannel analyses using VIPRE • Prepare and verify VIPRE subchannel analyses, including CHF predictions and margin evaluations • Prepare and verify RELAP system-level evaluations, including LOCA, non-LOCA transients, and design-basis evaluations • Evaluate system designs, operating functions, and engineered features for required safety functions • Recommend design modifications that preserve safety margins and system performance • Lead cross-functional thermal-hydraulic reviews for reload safety analyses, design changes, operational concepts, and licensing deliverables • Identify margin sensitivities and cross-discipline interface impacts • Support development and maintenance of licensed thermal-hydraulic methods and implementing analyses • Maintain thermal-hydraulic modeling standards and evaluate method applicability ranges • Advise on code and model updates • Support application of licensed methods to alternate regulatory frameworks and country-specific regulatory expectations • Manage interfaces with core and fuel design, subchannel thermal hydraulics, and transient analysis • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and lead complex analysis tasks • Contribute to licensing technical/topical reports, license applications, and other licensing documentation • Participate in licensing interactions with the government regulator • Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and design documents • Develop innovative solutions to multifaceted technical challenges using multi-physics reasoning • Independently frame problems, propose solution strategies, and execute analyses with minimal oversight • Support changing organizational priorities, including urgent analyses, cross-functional reviews, troubleshooting, and special studies • Perform other duties as assigned
• Minimum B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from a four-year accredited college or university • Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering desirable • Minimum 8 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience • Experience implementing engineering design processes for subchannel thermal-hydraulics, transient analysis, and related safety analysis • Experience in neutronics or fuel performance preferred • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 • Understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1 • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using phones, personal interaction, and computers • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend, understand, and apply new concepts quickly in a rapidly evolving environment • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately with or without reasonable accommodation without causing significant safety threat to self or others
