• Prepare, reconcile, file, pay, and administer federal, state, and local tax obligations for OHSU and its subsidiaries • Research, analyze, monitor compliance, and assess risks related to complex tax matters • Prepare and file unrelated business income tax returns, including Form 990-T • Review institutional activities for potential unrelated business income and liaise with external tax consultants • Advise departments on tax compliance issues involving programs, contracts, grants, sponsorships, revenue-generating activities, and institutional initiatives • Prepare and file indirect tax returns and business tax returns for OHSU subsidiaries • Maintain annual IRS Form W-9s and prepare Form 945 • Conduct compliance pre-audits, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring • Process tax payments, deposits, and refunds • Respond to tax audits, notices, and correspondence • Administer international tax compliance for nonresident employees, students, scholars, visitors, and foreign vendors • Maintain nonresident alien records and documentation and administer tax treaty compliance • Prepare Forms 1042 and 1042-S and maintain tax residency certificates • Prepare and file regulatory reports for federal and state agencies • Conduct compliance audits, gap analyses, and audit-readiness assessments • Develop and update fiscal policies, guidelines, FAQs, and procedures • Support collective bargaining activities with tax research, analysis, and technical expertise • Provide customer service and maintain current knowledge of tax law and related institutional requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or tax-related field, or equivalent education/experience • Minimum 5 years of experience with tax compliance and reporting in federal and multi-state business taxes, specifically unrelated business income tax for healthcare, government, higher education, or nonprofit tax areas • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and international income tax compliance requirements • Knowledge of accounting principles, tax reporting requirements, and internal controls • Ability to research, interpret, and apply tax laws, regulations, and guidance • Ability to analyze transactions and determine appropriate tax treatment and reporting requirements • Proficient with Excel • Experience structuring large amounts of data into logical, thorough analysis • Experience documenting assumptions and steps in work to provide detailed explanation and a clear audit trail • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to a variety of audiences
