⢠Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers supporting the design of a novel advanced reactor ⢠Design and evaluate mechanical systems associated with advanced reactor structures, systems, and components ⢠Support the completion, implementation, and verification of engineering projects ⢠Design reactor vessels in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, including high-temperature creep and fatigue considerations ⢠Design and evaluate high-temperature gaskets, seals, bolting, and related mechanical components ⢠Design and document electromechanical devices, including control rod and control drum drive mechanisms ⢠Prepare and maintain controlled engineering models, drawings, specifications, calculations, and design descriptions ⢠Verify designs conform to established requirements and applicable codes and standards ⢠Translate project objectives into controlled design requirements using a systems-engineering approach ⢠Apply digital engineering tools to track design requirements, interfaces, and technical parameters ⢠Develop designs and verify they satisfy defined requirements using recognized engineering methodologies and best practices ⢠Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements ⢠Verify fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement activities comply with approved designs ⢠Develop and maintain technical baselines and configuration management for assigned systems ⢠Ensure consistency across engineering and operational documents ⢠Establish experiment requirements and develop conceptual and final designs with designers, customers, engineers, and analysts ⢠Support fabrication, inspection, experiment assembly, installation, and testing ⢠Support integrated engineering analyses demonstrating compliance with facility safety bases ⢠Perform design, fabrication, and related engineering activities supporting reactor operations and experimentation ⢠Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Reactor Project Engineer or Engineering Manager
⢠Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program, plus at least eight years of relevant professional experience; or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program, plus at least six years of relevant professional experience ⢠Knowledge of mechanical system design and evaluation ⢠Knowledge of the ASME B31 series and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code ⢠Knowledge of engineering design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, drawings, blueprints, models, specifications, and calculations ⢠Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles involving heat transfer, fluid flow, gas flow, material behavior, and system dynamics ⢠Knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment used to design and produce mechanical systems and components ⢠Ability to apply established engineering principles and requirements to complex technical problems ⢠Ability to analyze information from multiple sources and develop technically sound conclusions ⢠Ability to recognize existing or potential design, fabrication, and operational problems ⢠Ability to communicate technical information clearly through written documentation and verbal presentations ⢠Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team ⢠Strong attention to detail, organization, and technical documentation ⢠Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while meeting project schedules and quality requirements ⢠Must be a U.S. Citizen ⢠Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, including a drug and breath alcohol test and Motor Vehicle Record check ⢠Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance ⢠Must be available to travel to the Materials and Fuels Complex as required
