📋 Description

• Report, write and produce breaking and enterprise news stories on audio, visual and digital platforms focused on coastal Oregon • Cover breaking and daily news and longer-term feature stories across a wide range of subjects • Research stories, schedule and conduct interviews, and plan future beat coverage • Gather sound, video and photos • Record and edit material using digital audio tools • Use social media for information gathering and engagement • Collaborate with OPB’s social media team and reporters and staff across the organization • Participate in local news programming as a guest on radio shows and podcasts or be debriefed by an on-air host • Support inclusion of other local voices in on-air programming • Produce reports for national news programs and newscasts as assigned • Participate in fundraising and outreach functions • Meet daily deadlines and manage multiple news priorities • Work under the guidance of the Regional Managing Editor and Regional Team Lead • Travel across coastal communities and occasionally to other locations in Oregon and Washington

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience • 3 years equivalent full-time professional experience as a journalist • Experience developing and maintaining a beat • Ability to develop and maintain sources • Strong writing, interviewing and organizational skills • Familiarity with photography, audio, video and social media in the presentation of news stories • Ability to work independently in a remote location and collaboratively with editors and reporters throughout the Northwest • Commitment to high ethical standards in reporting • Ability to file live reports and participate in breaking news • Ability to be the face of OPB to coastal communities • Enthusiasm for the mission of OPB • Enthusiasm for the changing news production environment and related tools and software • Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license required • Regional and state travel required • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 10 pounds • Preferred: experience as a bureau reporter; digital audio recording and editing equipment; photography or video production skills; following stories over time; community engagement experience; bilingual English and another language such as Spanish or Russian
