It serves patients directly and partners with employers, health plans, and health systems, and emphasizes clinical standards, provider reviews, and ongoing professional development.

📋 Description

• Own applied AI and ML solutions across mental healthcare • Drive search ranking, relevance, and patient-provider matching • Shape personalization and recommendation strategies • Direct foundational ML platforms supporting AI solutions at scale • Develop advanced recommendation engines and retrieval models • Apply NLP and generative AI to clinical workflows • Set technical standards for AI safety • Make principal decisions about introducing machine learning into a high-stakes environment • Develop and fine-tune Learning-to-Rank models, embeddings, recommendation algorithms, and LLMs • Design product-facing AI architectures and core ML infrastructure • Unblock complex engineering problems • Act as a technical multiplier for engineers across product surfaces • Ship applied AI features that improve match quality and user experience • Build scalable, durable AI foundations • Set direction for relevance, recommendation systems, and the broader AI ecosystem • Improve patient outcomes through responsible applied ML

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience • 7+ years of experience designing and scaling distributed systems • 5+ years building and deploying production-grade ML applications • 5+ years building and optimizing search, ranking, relevance, or recommendation engines at scale • Deep experience with Learning-to-Rank, collaborative filtering, deep recommender systems, or semantic vector search • 5+ years of programming experience in Python and at least one backend language, preferably TypeScript, Java, or Go • 2+ years building AI-powered products using foundation models such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini • Experience with LLM integration patterns such as RAG and agents • Proven experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch • Proven experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, or Milvus • 3+ years of experience with MLOps, data pipelines, and rigorous evaluation systems • Experience with offline metrics such as NDCG/MAP and online A/B testing • Ability to define technical strategy and guide the broader AI/ML infrastructure ecosystem • Must be based in the United States; Rula currently does not hire in Hawaii • Preferred: secure and compliant AI solutions in regulated environments, including HIPAA and GDPR • Preferred: human-in-the-loop systems and clinical decision support frameworks • Preferred: evaluation pipelines for human alignment, factual accuracy, or model interpretability • Preferred: contributions to open-source AI frameworks or applied research in NLP, healthcare AI, or GenAI safety • Preferred: early-stage team growth experience • Preferred: leading or mentoring engineering teams in AI, ML platform, or applied research domains
