📋 Description

• Lead Food Safety and Quality Assurance regulatory compliance and operational excellence across Smithfield Foods facilities • Audit existing procedures, written policies, enforcement, implementation and regulatory reports • Author, review and update food safety and quality policies • Ensure compliance with USDA and FDA regulations, customer contract requirements, Safe Quality Foods 2000 system level 3 code and corporate direction • Drive adoption of scientifically rigorous, cost-effective technologies with Operations Divisional Vice Presidents • Provide specialized training to Food Safety and Quality Assurance staff and plant employees • Support facilities during customer audits and regulatory assessments • Deliver expertise on smokehouse calibration and operations, sanitary equipment design, microbiological harborage identification, quality plans and product regulatory requirements • Research emerging industry issues through online resources, scientific publications and workshops • Identify and implement cost-effective, scientifically supportable solutions • Analyze, interpret and evaluate in-process analytics data using scientific principles • Author and develop cost-effective, scientifically dependable system improvements • Perform continuous data analysis to identify trends and troubleshoot problematic systems or departments • Drive employee development and coaching and foster a positive employee experience • Travel primarily to process facilities and occasionally attend customer, sales or professional meetings

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience in the food industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership required • Proficiency in food manufacturing processes, quality assurance principles, food science and meat processing, SPC and statistics • Demonstrated experience using continuous improvement tools and fundamentals • Relevant experience with government regulatory requirements in food processing, including USDA and FDA, required • Ability to document expertise in design and execution of Quality/technical work • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, inventory software, manufacturing software and SAP • Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, writing, interpersonal, communication, planning, organizational, multitasking and project management skills • Must be able to travel up to 70% of the time • Must be able to complete required applicable forms in English; ability to read and write in English • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required; at least 4 years in a management capacity within a manufacturing environment under USDA preferred • Ability to work alternate shifts and some weekends • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds • Fundamental mathematical skills for managing Key Performance Indicators • Ability to deliver information to diverse audiences • Previous multi-site responsibility and perishable experience a plus
