📋 Description

• Own the connection between the design system and production code • Build and maintain reusable components, design tokens, and shared foundations across iOS, Android, and Web • Translate high-fidelity designs into production-quality components with exceptional visual accuracy • Collaborate with Engineering to create scalable, flexible, performant, accessible, and adoptable component architecture • Improve design-to-code workflows through tooling, automation, documentation, and developer experience • Develop systems that increase speed while maintaining quality and consistency • Improve governance around component APIs, tokens, naming conventions, versioning, and adoption • Review implementations and identify opportunities to improve the design system and product quality • Explore and build AI-powered workflows for designing, building, documenting, and maintaining products • Help shape the future of product development at Step • Partner with Product Design and Engineering leadership to evolve Step’s design platform and reduce product development friction • Report to the Head of Design

🎯 Requirements

• Significant experience building and evolving design systems for modern consumer software products • Strong frontend engineering experience building reusable component libraries and design infrastructure • Deep understanding of design tokens, component architecture, accessibility, documentation, and modern design system best practices • Strong understanding of Figma and modern design-system workflows • Systems-thinking approach to improving product development workflows • Exceptional visual attention to detail • Ability to collaborate effectively with designers and engineers • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical and product decisions across disciplines • Curiosity about AI and emerging design tools • Experience shipping high-quality mobile or web applications • Portfolio or work examples demonstrating technical execution and design systems thinking • Experience with React Native or cross-platform component libraries preferred • Experience building token pipelines or design system tooling preferred • Experience with Storybook or similar documentation platforms preferred • Experience building Figma plugins or internal developer tools preferred • Experience using AI to improve design workflows or build design tooling preferred • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
