📋 Description

• Lead SURJ’s Development Department Operations Team and bottom-line team management, grants management, staff supervision, planning, systems, coordination, data, and financial-impact reporting • Maintain revenue projections and monthly fundraising cash-flow updates • Liaise directly with Finance to keep SURJ in an informed financial position • Coordinate with the Grants Manager and represent SURJ in institutional funder and family-foundation spaces • Maintain a select donor portfolio with an annual fundraising portfolio set each fiscal year • Develop the annual development plan and income projections with the Director of Development and Donor Organizing • Manage grant applications and reports, create work plans, track progress, and support staff fundraising • Supervise three or more development staff and contract development support • Conduct weekly supervision check-ins and facilitate Development Operations Team meetings • Manage annual and quarterly work plans and support staff in achieving quarterly goals • Design and lead two annual in-person Development Operations Team meetings • Lead team coordination, cohesion, hiring, onboarding, and workflow development • Create collaboration structures between Operations and the broader Development Team • Coordinate the annual grants and foundations calendar • Implement day-to-day data and financial management and improve data systems and reporting • Review quarterly projections against actuals and ensure accurate donor data • Serve as development’s point of contact with communications, finance, and national organizing leadership • Represent development in cross-team meetings and support cross-department fundraising efforts • Ensure grant deadlines, proposal/report drafting, reviews, edits, and final approvals are completed • Support foundation prospecting and conduct regular portfolio reviews with the Grants Manager • Ensure grant data and files are maintained in EveryAction and shared drives

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience supervising individuals and teams • 5+ years demonstrated leadership in development and fundraising • Experience with CRM database systems, including Every Action and complex spreadsheets • Experience working with and supervising a wide range of people, from volunteers to Board members to donors • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to reasonable accommodation under federal, state, and local law • Experience supporting people across a range of class identities in donor relationship-building and communication • Experience with and commitment to SURJ's work, and a commitment to racial and economic justice • Class consciousness and ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with members, board and staff from diverse class backgrounds, communities, geographies and cultures • Ability to represent development and SURJ in internal and external meetings • Excellent supervision skills, including blending to a variety of work styles and creating a cohesive work culture • Strategic and systems thinking • Facilitation design and implementation experience • Excellent relational and verbal communication skills • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize competing demands • Strong written communication skills • Strong attention to detail • Ability to be highly relational while holding people accountable and creating a culture of compassion and rigor
