📋 Description

• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to Tides staff, executive leadership, senior staff, and the Legal, Risk & Compliance team • Advise on nonprofit and corporate matters, organizational policies, and procedures • Advise on employment and labor law and sensitive workplace and personnel issues • Conduct and advise on workplace and internal investigations • Interpret and advise on the Collective Bargaining Agreement and related disputes • Handle corporate litigation, employee-related disputes, arbitrations, and litigation • Respond to subpoenas and liaise with insurance carriers on claims • Engage and oversee outside counsel when needed • Review, draft, revise, and negotiate contracts and other agreements • Lead cross-departmental legal projects and initiatives • Design and deliver staff training on relevant legal topics • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and enforcement developments affecting employment and labor practices • Translate legal developments into strategic advice • Mentor Legal, Risk & Compliance team members and support team education and resource management

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctor required • Active California law license or eligibility for registered in-house counsel admission required • In-house registration requires residency in California • At least 8–10 years of relevant legal experience as a practicing attorney • Experience advising organizations on labor and employment laws, preferably including union-represented workforces • Significant experience representing nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations • Familiarity with nonprofit corporate law and federal tax-exemption law • Experience advising on employment and labor matters, litigation, and transactions • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with excellent judgment • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to counsel executives and explain legal concepts to non-lawyers • Legally authorized to work in the United States
