📋 Description

• Identify, communicate, measure and manage organization-wide risk • Conduct quarterly assessments of programmatic, financial, safety and security risks • Evaluate risk consequences and implement appropriate mitigation measures • Manage liability insurance procurement with insurance brokers • Develop and implement risk-management and compliance policies and procedures • Manage insurance claims and relationships with brokers, underwriters and other third-party administrators • Audit current safety processes and procedures • Develop and implement risk-management controls and systems with UPO offices and program management • Identify UPO safety sites for fires, natural disasters and other emergencies • Ensure Basic Business License renewals for UPO, UPO Inspire and UPO CDC • Coordinate fire drills, elevator protocols and other safety requirements with the Office of Facilities Management • Design processes to eliminate or mitigate potential risks • Create organization-wide contingency plans for crises • Evaluate policies and procedures for compliance with applicable laws at the direction of the General Counsel • Maintain data for PMR reports and present recommendations to executive management, senior management and, when necessary, the board of directors • Implement solutions and plans • Evaluate employee risk awareness and recommend or conduct training • Assist with contract and procurement matters and contract negotiations • Review, edit and draft contracts, memoranda, letters, leases, policies and procedures • Conduct legal research and analysis using computerized legal research programs and AI software such as ChatGPT • Analyze and interpret laws, regulations, contracts and other documents • Maintain and improve systems for compiling, organizing and indexing files and records • Assist with document retention and destruction • Maintain and improve legal resource materials • Collaborate with staff on tasks and projects • Maintain confidentiality • Perform clerical duties as needed, including filing, typing, copying, invoicing, purchasing supplies and answering phones • Assist with Board of Directors matters • Become familiar with the agency mission and strategic plan • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree • Excellent computer, data entry and MS Office skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to handle private, sensitive, confidential information appropriately • Strong attention to detail and organization • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds • Experience working with liability brokers and insurance companies • Knowledge of compliance and risk-management matters involving federal (e.g., OHS, CSBG, OSSE) and local government funding streams • Selected candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check and/or FBI fingerprinting, as well as pre-employment drug screening, as applicable • Master’s or Juris Doctorate Degree and at least two years of experience with risk assessment and control are desired • Experience with auditing and reporting procedures is desired • Familiarity with compliance standards and regulations is desired • Familiarity with DC and federally funded programs or a nonprofit environment is desired • Strong computer and research skills are desired • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude is desired • Excellent communication and presentation skills are desired • Prior work experience with a nonprofit or government agency is desired
