📋 Description

• Review surgical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes for complex interventional radiology and surgical procedures • Apply national coding guidelines, AMA and CMS conventions, CCI/MUE edits, LCDs, and NCDs • Collaborate with appropriate personnel and physicians to resolve documentation insufficiencies and expedite account resolution • Code and/or audit complex surgical procedures across assigned specialty areas • Interpret medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures affecting inpatient stays and outpatient encounters • Complete quality and timely coding, charging, and abstraction of assigned accounts • Maintain and enhance coding knowledge through quality reviews, clinical in-services, seminars, meetings, reference materials, and coding manual updates • Review data for accurate, timely clean-bill preparation • Contact physicians and other personnel to obtain information required for accurate coding and facilitate billing • Monitor provider documentation, perform coding audits, and provide provider education as needed • Assist Revenue Cycle Operations with claim development and problem patient accounts • Research reimbursement information to resolve missing charges and problem accounts • Interact with providers to maximize correct coding initiatives and maintain expertise in coding and sequencing guidelines

🎯 Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent • Current HIM/Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC • Must obtain Specialty Medical Coding Certification through AAPC within one year of hire • Three years of medical coding experience, including one year of advanced surgical coding experience • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology • Ability to concentrate and maintain accuracy during constant interruptions • Independent decision-making ability • Ability to prioritize duties and handle high-stress situations • Ability to adapt to workplace changes and organize assigned tasks • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to meet quality and productivity standards • Ability to sit for long periods, use computer and office equipment, and lift, push, or pull 10–20 pounds • AAPC or AHIMA certification required
