📋 Description

• Accurately assign and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnosis, CPT procedural, and HCPCS codes to professional inpatient and outpatient records for reimbursement and data collection • Read patient records and verify patient information, documentation, reports, and account or encounter data • Code outpatient professional encounters and abstract medical-record data • Query physicians or clinical staff for additional diagnostic or procedural specificity when needed • Access and apply local and national coverage determinations (LCDs/NCDs) • Identify and report unusual circumstances, risk factors, errors, discrepancies, and scanning issues • Meet coding quality and quantity expectations and maintain coding currency within required timeframes • Provide rotating weekend coverage as needed • Collaborate with Quality, Medical Staff, clinicians, physician offices, Patient Financial Services, and department leadership • Respond to edits and questions from Patient Financial Services within one business day • Participate in committees and provide provider in-services when appropriate • Attend coder meetings, in-services, training, and educational programs • Support HIM department efficiency and assist colleagues • Comply with CMS, AAPC, HIPAA, safety, compliance, confidentiality, and medicolegal policies • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Three years of ProFee coding experience with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS required • Must achieve department quality and productivity expectations within 90 days of employment • One required certification: RHIT, RHIA, CPC/CPC-H, CCS/CCS-P, or CIRCC • Computer, keyboard, and mouse proficiency required • Experience with basic Microsoft Office applications required • Ability to search CMS and third-party payer websites for coding requirements and medical necessity guidelines • Competence accessing and using an encoder such as 3M or TruCode required • Working knowledge of English, including reading, writing, and speaking • Graduate of a coding certificate program, or associate or bachelor degree in health information technology or another allied health field • Courses in physiology and pharmacology preferred • Must be HIPAA compliant
