📋 Description

• Lead, coach and grow a team of firmware and embedded engineers and, where applicable, team leads • Conduct regular 1:1s, career development and performance feedback • Own delivery of the team’s roadmap through planning, prioritising and unblocking work • Balance technical debt against new feature development • Guide network security, parental control and device intelligence features for Linux-based CPE devices • Guide porting efforts as new vendor platforms come on stream • Participate in technical design and architecture reviews • Guide decisions on native code design, network-stack integration, memory and performance budgets, and platform portability • Steward the team’s C-to-Rust direction in embedded contexts • Own functional, performance and resilience testing strategy • Own automated test infrastructure and test lab planning and investment • Champion test automation, CI/CD, code review, documentation and incident response • Continuously improve team processes • Partner with product management, architecture and other engineering managers • Manage dependencies across cloud and backend, QA, delivery and operator-facing teams • Communicate trade-offs clearly to stakeholders • Drive hiring, onboarding and team structure decisions with recruiting • Report team health, delivery risk and technical direction to senior leadership • Work within CUJO AI’s ISO 9001 and SOC 2 Type 2 regulated operating model

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software, firmware or networking engineering experience, including 2+ years in a formal or informal leadership role • Track record of managing and developing engineers or engineering leads • Hands-on engineering background in native code development on Linux • Ability to evaluate architecture and review designs in C and/or Rust • Working knowledge of the Linux network stack and Linux OS architecture • Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems: OpenWrt, Yocto or Buildroot • Understanding of cross-platform porting costs • Experience owning delivery for a product area end to end, from roadmap planning through shipping and post-launch support • Appreciation for CI/CD, TDD and test automation • Comfort operating with ambiguity and making decisions on incomplete information • Experience with agile / iterative delivery practices, such as Scrum or Kanban • Excellent written and verbal communication • Experience working in a global organisation with international teams • Fluency in English, spoken and written • Direct experience shipping embedded systems, firmware, or networking / Wi-Fi products to volume is advantageous • Hands-on Rust in production embedded contexts or leadership of a C-to-Rust transition is advantageous • Experience building firewalls, protocol clients, or deep-packet / traffic-inspection software is advantageous • Familiarity with Wi-Fi chipsets and drivers, including Broadcom, MediaTek and Qualcomm, is advantageous • Experience with CPE, router or gateway platforms and vendor SDKs is advantageous • Experience leading teams shipping into operator or carrier environments is advantageous • Experience designing automated test infrastructure for embedded or network products and physical lab environments is advantageous • Jenkins or comparable CI/CD at scale is advantageous • Experience running remote or distributed teams is advantageous • Experience in regulated or certified environments is advantageous • Prior experience with stage-gate or concept-gate processes is advantageous • Experience growing engineers into senior and staff-level roles is advantageous • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence and Slack is advantageous
