📋 Description

• Administer and support approximately 30 SQL Server IaaS virtual machines hosted on Azure across production and non-production workloads • Manage and maintain two high-availability SQL Server clusters • Administer Azure SQL PaaS logical servers, elastic pools, and Azure SQL Managed Instances • Perform performance tuning, query optimization, index and statistics maintenance, capacity planning, cost optimization, backup, restore, disaster recovery testing, security configuration, access management, and compliance activities • Design, maintain, and validate high-availability and disaster-recovery strategies • Support production and non-production replication using Attunity Replicate (Qlik) • Design and maintain monitoring and alerting across SQL platforms • Develop PowerShell monitoring scripts to detect thresholds, performance and availability conditions, and trigger proactive alerts • Integrate critical alerts with PagerDuty and non-critical warnings with email • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident remediation • Use Terraform to deploy and maintain Azure SQL resources, alerting configurations, monitoring baselines, and data-platform infrastructure • Maintain Azure DevOps YAML pipelines for build, test, and deployment workflows • Enforce repository governance through pull-request templates, pre-commit hooks, linting, validation, and documentation • Own and maintain enterprise data-platform repositories and assets across Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python code, configuration, and deployment artifacts • Build, maintain, and support modular data pipelines across business domains • Develop and support Python-based transformations and business-rule logic executed as Databricks jobs • Maintain automated unit, component, and integration test suites and test datasets • Support data-quality validation and reconciliation activities • Maintain technical documentation for onboarding, operational readiness, and auditability • Develop understanding of application data flows and business logic to support production stability and data correctness • Partner with stakeholders on data governance initiatives • Contribute to database consolidation, redesign, data-model discussions, and migration planning

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator with Microsoft SQL Server • 5+ years of T-SQL development and performance optimization experience • 3+ years of experience with database schema design, refactoring, and modernization • 2+ years of experience with Azure cloud services • Experience optimizing databases supporting high-transaction OLTP systems • Proven experience tuning poorly performing databases and queries • Experience with code review processes and mentoring development teams • Willingness to grow expertise in modern data platforms • Strong expertise in SQL Server administration across IaaS and PaaS • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Business Critical and General Purpose tiers, and SQL Server Failover Clustering and/or Always On technologies • Experience with Azure infrastructure and services • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and monitoring • Monitoring and alerting experience with Foglight, Azure Monitor, and custom solutions • 2+ years of data engineering or ETL/ELT development experience preferred • Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices preferred • Experience with medallion architecture or lakehouse patterns preferred • Hands-on experience with Databricks and Azure Data Factory preferred • Experience with Microsoft Fabric in production environments preferred • Background migrating on-premises databases to cloud platforms preferred • Experience with DevOps practices for database deployments preferred • Experience in regulated industries with compliance requirements preferred • Exposure to Event Hubs or Kafka preferred • Experience with data governance tools and frameworks preferred • Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD using YAML pipelines for automated testing and deployment preferred • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related technical field required; equivalent combination of education and experience considered • Master's degree preferred • Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Databricks Data Engineer certifications highly desirable • Additional certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, MCSE Data Management and Analytics, or ITIL Foundation are valuable
