📋 Description

• Own all internal billing and collection activities for a psychiatric and mental health practice end to end • Review claims for accuracy and identify billing issues before submission • Submit claims, manage claim rejections and denials, and file corrected claims and appeals • Investigate and resolve underpayments and payer discrepancies • Review accounts receivable aging reports to ensure timely reimbursement • Serve as the primary liaison between the practice and external billing vendors • Manage patient balances and collection activities • Contact patients about outstanding balances and establish payment arrangements when appropriate • Process patient payments and maintain accurate account balances • Reconcile payment discrepancies and research billing concerns • Maintain financial documentation and patient account records • Serve as the primary contact for the practice's billing phone line • Answer patient questions about deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, eligibility, benefits, balances, payment plans, and billing statements • Provide billing statements, itemized receipts, and payment histories upon request • Explain billing information clearly, professionally, and compassionately • Resolve patient billing concerns and escalate complex issues when necessary • Monitor and report revenue cycle metrics, including days in AR, AR aging, clean claim rate, claim submission lag, payment posting timeliness, and patient collection performance • Prepare billing reports using Excel and other reporting tools • Proactively flag performance trends and issues to the practice manager • Maintain compliance with HIPAA requirements, payer guidelines, and applicable federal and state regulations • Ensure billing documentation supports medical necessity and payer requirements • Collaborate with administrative staff and leadership to resolve billing concerns and improve operational processes • Complete the application process, including prequalifying questions, video introduction, role-specific assessment if applicable, recruitment interview, executive interview, client interview, and background/reference check

🎯 Requirements

• At least 2 to 3 years of proven full-cycle medical billing and revenue cycle experience, with recent psychiatric or behavioral health billing experience strongly preferred; the posting states this is a hard requirement • Proficiency in eClinicalWorks (eCW) with recent hands-on experience; eCW proficiency is a hard requirement • Proven experience with Medicare billing • HIPAA certification and strong working knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements • Comprehensive knowledge of the full medical billing lifecycle, including claims management, payment posting, denials, collections, and accounts receivable • Experience with commercial insurance plans, Medicaid, and managed care organizations in addition to Medicare • Strong knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-10 coding, insurance terminology, and payer guidelines in a psychiatric practice setting • Excellent phone etiquette and patient communication skills for discussing financial matters professionally and compassionately • Strong reporting skills with proficiency in Excel and other reporting tools • Highly organized, accurate, and able to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment • No prior commitments conflicting with full-time employment • Reliable technical setup for remote work • Availability during US business hours • Updated resume • Short 1 to 2 minute Loom video introducing yourself, describing psychiatric billing and eCW experience, and explaining how you handle a denied claim • Only candidates who submit a Loom video will advance to the next hiring step
