📋 Description

• Assist with design work for HVAC installation projects according to client and project requirements • Ensure design and estimating work complies with Australian standards, codes, and legislation, including NCC, AS 1668, AS 3666, and AS/NZS 3000 • Keep current with Australian building code and standard changes affecting HVAC design • Measure and quantify materials and labour from PDF and CAD drawings • Produce linear metre, square metre, and item-count take-offs for ductwork, pipework, equipment, and accessories • Prepare Bills of Quantities from drawings and specifications • Maintain and update Excel-based take-off templates and estimating spreadsheets • Compile tender packages with scope breakdowns, pricing schedules, and compliance documentation • Review tender documents and RFQs for scope, inclusions, exclusions, and conditions • Send RFQs to subcontractors and suppliers • Follow up and consolidate subcontractor pricing into estimates • Assist with cover letters and tender submission documents • Log project variations against the original scope • Maintain variation registers and assist with variation claims • Track variation approvals and flag outstanding items • Perform commercial HVAC heat load calculations using industry-standard software • Prepare room-by-room and system-level load summaries • Assist with equipment selection based on calculated loads and minimum flow rates • Ensure calculations align with AS 1668 and NCC Volume 1 • Assist with data entry and job setup in SimPro • Maintain project files and documentation in OneDrive • Support quote follow-ups and client communication

🎯 Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field • Minimum 2 years' experience in HVAC design, estimating, quantity surveying, or a similar role • Proficient in Bluebeam Revu, CostX, Buildsoft, or similar estimating software • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and project specifications • Experience performing heat load calculations using HAP, Trace 700, or equivalent software • Solid Microsoft Excel skills — able to build and maintain estimating templates • Familiarity with Australian construction standards and HVAC specifications is highly regarded • Strong written and spoken English • Reliable internet connection, suitable home office setup, and own computer • Experience working with Australian HVAC contractors or engineering consultancies • Knowledge of AS 1668, AS/NZS 3666, and NCC Volume 1 (Section J) • Familiarity with SimPro job management software • AutoCAD or Revit skills • Experience preparing O&M manuals or project handover documentation • Must disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work • Must reflect this engagement on LinkedIn as “Independent Contractor”
