• Manage new and existing customers in the academic publishing market • Identify opportunities in the Chinese market and expand strategic partnerships to maximize revenue • Achieve and exceed annual territory sales targets and contribute to revenue and profit objectives • Establish short-, medium-, and long-term business strategies within the territory • Plan schedules and conduct regular customer sales visits across the product portfolio • Drive sales velocity by closing deals within defined timeframes • Balance core revenue growth with exploration of new avenues and products • Cultivate sustainable, profitable customer relationships and high customer satisfaction • Develop professional and industry stakeholder networks including institutions, distributors, funders, and government bodies • Seek new customers and business development opportunities to grow Academic division revenues • Liaise with Marketing, Editorial, Credit Control, Sales Support, and other internal departments • Update the company CRM with customer and opportunity information • Report on market progress and the business environment • Customize sales documentation and tools • Develop bespoke promotional activities with key customers and deploy general promotions • Uphold company trading and terms policy • Analyze products, customers, markets, and competitors and recommend improvements • Perform ad hoc tasks and responsibilities supporting evolving business needs
• At least 3–5 years of demonstrated successful account management experience • Strong understanding of the academic publishing industry and academic content business models • Previous success in a sales role • Track record of managing high-pressure sales environments and meeting or exceeding ambitious revenue targets • Business acumen, including understanding business implications, profitability, markets, and competition • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex or diverse information • Experience collecting and researching data • Strong consultative sales skills and ability to deliver tailored customer solutions • Professional manner and ability to react well under pressure • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach focused on progress and results • Resilience and adaptability when managing change • Strong analytical capabilities and experience using data to improve sales performance • Clear, persuasive oral communication and strong listening skills • Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities and build positive internal and external relationships • Willingness to travel within the territory and to conferences and book fairs as required • Native Mandarin proficiency • Communicable English proficiency with business-appropriate verbal and written communication skills • Competent user of MS Office and other sales tools or systems • Must have the right to work in China • Anhui-based candidates must be able to work remotely as homeworkers and travel to customer locations and Shanghai or Beijing offices when required • Shanghai-based candidates must live within a commutable distance of the Shanghai office and attend the office 3 days per week • Relocation support is not provided
