📋 Description

• Help decide what to build, where system boundaries should sit, what breaks first under load, and what is expensive to change • Work as a technical peer to the client's Staff engineers and engineering managers within planning, standups, and design reviews • Put designs into production • Investigate existing multi-product architecture before proposing changes • Deliver evidence-based assessments of code and design quality across product lines • Assess correctness on money and stock paths, security posture, product-line coupling, and capacity risk • Write and review RFCs and ADRs covering assumptions, failure modes, capacity, and security • Design extend-versus-rebuild decisions with incremental, reversible migration paths and rollback plans • Work with multi-currency payments, fraud and abuse exposure, PCI DSS scope, third-party supplier integrations, and traffic spikes up to 65x baseline

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience • Experience designing across several teams' surfaces • Ability to anticipate future use cases and minimize cost of change • Ability to anticipate scaling limits across domains and shared dependencies • Experience substantively reviewing technical designs • Ability to work as a technical peer to Staff engineers and engineering managers • Experience designing services using bounded contexts and minimizing cross-service dependencies • Ability to design for expected peak load and validate limits through testing • Experience building reusable components with documentation and migration paths • Experience designing for abuse prevention, including rate limits, velocity checks, and idempotency • Ability to read and explain every line of AI-generated code shipped • Testing covering edge and failure cases • Working command of OWASP Top 10 • Secure-by-default practices, including secrets management, input validation, and data handling • Strong written English • Collaborative approach using reasoning and trade-offs • Experience with multi-currency payments, fraud and abuse exposure, PCI DSS scope, third-party supplier integrations, and significant traffic spikes
