📋 Description

• Run the full native Portuguese payroll cycle in-house accurately, compliantly, and on time • Process and check payroll master data, including hires, terminations, salary changes, variable pay, benefits, absences, and garnishments • Run pre- and post-payroll validations and flag issues before they reach team members, customers, or Finance • Complete monthly IRS withholding declarations, DMR filings to Segurança Social, and annual Modelo 10 filings • File sickness and parental leave reimbursement claims • Retrieve and maintain employee IRS withholding codes • Support setup and maintenance of required government accesses • Follow payroll-system procedures and test legislative updates • Flag payroll-system issues or improvement ideas to the team lead or Product team • Apply Portuguese tax, social security, labor law, and collective bargaining agreement knowledge • Check payroll journals and GL mappings against outputs and identify data-integrity issues • Handle assigned client payroll tickets and escalate issues beyond scope • Prepare statutory and ad-hoc reports, including EU Pay Transparency Directive, Comissão de Trabalhadores pay assessments, and RGPD/GDPR compliance documentation • Provide data and documentation for internal and external audits • Follow SOPs, identify process gaps, share knowledge, and maintain playbooks and SOPs

🎯 Requirements

• 1–3 years running native (in-house) payroll processes for Portugal • Comfortable independently handling a defined volume of payslips per month • Hands-on experience with Portuguese payroll software Cegid (Primavera or PHC) and/or Sendys • Completed a recognized accounting/payroll qualification (e.g. Contabilista Certificado) and/or a dedicated payroll processing certification • Working knowledge of Portuguese wage tax, social insurance, and labor law • Portuguese at C1/C2 for interaction with local authorities • Fluent English for collaborating with the async global team • Comfortable handling assigned client queries and escalating issues beyond scope • Careful, detail-oriented approach with thorough self-checking • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and knowing when to escalate • Enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced colleagues • Comfortable working largely asynchronously in a fast-paced, remote-first environment • Broader accounting background or qualification is desirable • Experience delivering cross-functional HR/Payroll projects is desirable • Hands-on capability with AI tools for payroll or operations workflows is desirable • Strong data transformation skills and practical experience with data analytics platforms are desirable • Must be based in Portugal with the right to work there
