📋 Description

• Define meaningful AI capabilities for tradespeople and turn emerging capabilities into reliable, observable production product experiences • Shape architectural direction and cross-team system properties with other Staff Engineers • Enable individual teams to build and ship independently • Establish data models and semantics for AI-enabled workflows • Distinguish operational data from knowledge and make contextual understanding available for product use • Influence development and evaluation of customer-facing AI capabilities • Improve AI-enabled software engineering tooling, workflows, standards, and practices • Evolve shared architecture and engineering standards through RFCs and ADRs • Own complex initiatives from discovery and technical design through implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement • Identify technical capabilities, architectural improvements, and engineering practices worth investing in • Raise architecture, developer experience, AI-enabled engineering practices, and codebase quality across teams • Mentor engineers through collaboration, architectural guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience • Track record of technical leadership • Experience designing, shipping, and operating complex production systems at scale • Experience with distributed architectures, asynchronous or multi-step workflows, event-driven services, data pipelines, or ETL pipelines • Practical understanding of reliability and observability • Strong typed-language fundamentals and polyglot mindset • Productivity in TypeScript or ability to become productive quickly • Experience with React, serverless Node.js/Express, and GCP, or transferable experience from another modern cloud environment • Ability to distinguish operational data from knowledge and design deliberately for both • Strong system design and domain modelling skills • Applied experience with dependency injection, adapters, making invalid states unrepresentable, and parse-don’t-validate • Strong product thinking and evidence-based customer problem solving • Ability to influence technical direction across teams and align Engineering, Product, and business stakeholders without formal authority • Serious use of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or Codex • Broad T-shaped engineering profile with depth in at least one area • C1 English • German is a plus, not a must • Existing legal right to work in the EU or the specific country where the role is located; visa or work permit sponsorship is unavailable
