📋 Description

• Coordinate, analyze, design, implement, and administer IT solutions, including database server configuration and ongoing maintenance • Analyze client infrastructure and processes and recommend best practices to improve operational procedures, uptime, and database recoverability • Administer backup procedures and disaster recovery plans • Proactively monitor systems, respond to alerts, and troubleshoot operational problems • Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration of corrupted databases • Develop and review maintenance, deployment, and upgrade action plans and complete client documentation • Develop, implement, and maintain complex data architectures, including normalized and dimensional data models and DDL generation • Perform data transformation and migration using scripts or stored procedures • Lead problem management by identifying recurring incidents, designing technical procedures, and developing action plans • Participate equally in the team on-call rotation, typically one weekend per month • Make, manage, and meet client commitments with team members • Prepare client status and incident reports and respond to client requests and inquiries • Follow client operating procedures and change-control processes and manage client allotments • Provide technical client affinity as assigned by the Team Manager • Participate in or lead monitoring, toolkit, review, audit, and other process-improvement initiatives

🎯 Requirements

• Knowledge and experience installing, configuring, and upgrading PostgreSQL databases and PostgreSQL administration tools • Experience administering PostgreSQL in virtualized and cloud environments, especially AWS, GCP, or Azure • Experience with bash or Python scripting • Experience with software development in C++, Java, or Go • Experience with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or SALT • Strong debugging and methodical troubleshooting skills • Ability to identify and apply fixes for known errors and resolve complex issues • Very good documentation skills • Experience with High Availability solutions for PostgreSQL, including Patroni and repmgr, is required • Proficiency configuring and managing automated failover, replication, and cluster health monitoring • Experience with PostgreSQL backup tools including Barman, pgBackRest, and pg_basebackup is required • Proficiency configuring full, incremental, and differential backups, Point-in-Time Recovery, and WAL archiving • Experience migrating Oracle, MySQL, and MSSQL databases to PostgreSQL • Experience using ora2pg, AWS/GCP/Azure Database Migration Services, and other CDC-based migration techniques • Experience migrating between on-premises and cloud-based databases • Experience analyzing schema conversions, SQL compatibility issues, and post-migration performance tuning • Successful applicant must fulfill requirements necessary to obtain a background check • Understanding of ITIL is nice to have • Contributions to PostgreSQL or other database/infrastructure software projects are nice to have • Experience with PostgreSQL monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, SolarWinds, pgAdmin, Zabbix, Nagios, and Datadog is nice to have • Experience with AWS CloudWatch, Google Cloud Operations, and Azure Monitor is nice to have • PostgreSQL on Kubernetes administration is nice to have • Debezium and Striim experience is beneficial • EDB Postgres Distributed, EDB BigAnimal, automatic failover, consensus-based leader election, and cloud database resilience familiarity are beneficial
