📋 Description

• The Platform Foundation Team owns the core functionality of Toptal’s primary internal application platform and adjacent services; work across front-end and back-end. • Work on multiple applications with Node.js and Ruby back-ends and React front-ends; heavy use of TypeScript and GraphQL. • Mix of back-end work in Node.js (and Ruby) and front-end work in React. • Build performant, scalable, and well organized apps aligned with business goals and non-functional requirements. • This is a remote position; no visa sponsorship or assistance; resumes and communication must be submitted in English. • Write elegant, efficient and testable Node, Ruby and React code which is easy to maintain and debug. • Write, update, integrate features with React front-end components. • Implement various APIs to feed the front-end with data. • Cover code with tests and perform manual testing of features, while reviewing the work of colleagues. • Continuously improve team processes, brainstorm ideas and communicate statuses and progress. • Mentor other people, provide feedback and grow as a part of the team. • Learn new concepts and technologies. • First week: introduced to practices, participate in training, set up environment, create first pull request. • First month: familiarize with business domain, contribute to product development, deepen understanding of technology and processes. • First three months: supply software planning, development and maintenance; suggest and implement improvements. • First six months: lead technical initiatives; drive improvements to codebase and processes. • First year: detailed understanding of technical stack and mentor new team members.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of web development experience with Node and React. • Have a demonstrable understanding of backend and development principles, databases, clean code and best testing practices. • Consider multiple quality-dimensions like user impact, failure tolerance, code maintenance, implementation time, availability, security breaches and performance. • Have experience with modern JavaScript, preferably TypeScript and React. • Knowledge of Ruby (or a similar language like Python) is a strong plus • Be genuinely interested in technology and love to try new things. • Outstanding written and communication skills • Tackle complex problems but also consider multiple solutions, weigh them, and decide on the best course of action. • Thrive on providing and receiving transparent but always constructive feedback. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts. • You must be a world-class individual contributor to thrive at Toptal.
