📋 Description

• Code and abstract surgical procedures from final operative reports signed by providers • Review complex medical records and accurately code primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT conventions • Capture applicable Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) measures and reconcile surgical cases • Review supporting documentation such as pathology, radiology, and physician consultations • Provide coding and clinical documentation education and training to physicians and other providers • Provide real-time feedback on coding and documentation practices • Liaise with surgical providers and departments regarding documentation clarification and deficiencies • Mentor and assist in training other coders • Participate in developing coding policies and procedures • Coordinate and audit designated coding employees for quality and productivity • Research and develop continuing education presentation materials • Analyze coding trends and unbilled accounts for management and revenue teams • Coordinate quality reporting measures with providers and management • Collaborate with appeal and edit coders to resolve accounts • Use authorized electronic systems for documentation, coding abstraction, CCI edits, and LCD/NCD coverage review • Perform other related duties

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor degree in medical record administration, or associate degree in medical record technology, or one year coding diploma, or courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology with extensive training in coding • Four years of coding experience, including at least two years in surgical abstraction • Experience in physician or medical group multi-specialty surgical practices, such as Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, or Orthopedics • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification • Extensive knowledge of coding surgical procedures and applicable modifiers in a multi-specialty setting • Understanding and application of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines to coding • Advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical techniques • Extensive DRG/APC reimbursement knowledge • Familiarity with coding software • Effective written and verbal communication skills • Data entry/CRT skills • Must reside in one of the listed states: North Carolina, Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Washington
