📋 Description

• Review assigned homeowners catastrophe claims • Contact insureds and other affected parties • Set expectations for the remainder of the claim and initiate documentation in the claim handling system • Analyze policy coverage, provisions, exclusions, and applicability to reported losses • Identify all possible policyholder benefits • Create additional sub-claims when needed or refer complex claims to management or the appropriate claim handler • Investigate claim facts to determine payment limits, exclusions, and recovery potential • Review damages and determine the applicability of state law and other claim-related factors • Evaluate the financial value of losses • Approve payments to appropriate parties • Refer claims to Underwriting, Recovery Units, or the Claims Special Investigation Unit when necessary • Document and code claim files and complete claim closure activities in the claims management system • Negotiate claim settlements • Handle inside desk claims generally valued between $5,000 and $25,000 • Investigate claims requiring coverage analysis • Review estimates for accuracy • Monitor contractor repair status and updates when applicable • Collaborate with internal partners to ensure timely and fair outcomes

🎯 Requirements

• Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience • Eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire where required, and maintain it as specified • One year of experience with negotiating claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing claim evaluation and resolution plans • Knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan) • Knowledge of Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims • Knowledge of subrogation procedures and processes • Knowledge of intercompany arbitration • Knowledge of building construction and repair techniques • Ability to handle claims to Claim Handling Standards • Ability to follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures, and guidelines • Ability to work within assigned ACG Claim systems, including basic PC software • Ability to perform basic claim file reviews and investigations • Effective verbal and written communication skills • Customer service and relationship-building skills • Problem-solving and sound decision-making skills • Ability to prioritize claim-related functions • Ability to process time-sensitive data and information from multiple sources • Time management, organization, and workload planning skills • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws in various states • Ability to travel outside the assigned territory, potentially overnight • Ability to relocate and work evenings or weekends • Strong negotiating skills • Preferred: Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience • Preferred: Completion of the Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program • Preferred: CPCU coursework or designation • Preferred: 2+ years of experience with Xactimate and Xactanalysis • Preferred: High claim volume experience • Preferred: 2+ years of experience reviewing and editing estimates • Preferred: Appraisal experience • Valid driver's license required if primary responsibilities involve in-person inspections or frequent in-person meetings
