📋 Description

• Apply mandated coding and classification systems and official resources to select appropriate diagnosis, procedural (PCS), and other healthcare service codes • Select and sequence codes to ensure legally appropriate optimal reimbursement • Use computerized encoding systems for accurate coding • Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, UHDDS, Medicare, Medicaid, and fiscal intermediary guidelines • Support complete and accurate healthcare data reporting for reimbursement, value-based purchasing, population health, quality, patient safety, and research • Query physicians or qualified healthcare practitioners for clarification or additional documentation when records are conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous • Maintain coding knowledge through continuing education and meet continuing education requirements • Apply official coding rules, guidelines, and internal policies to represent patient services accurately on hospital claims • Attend coding meetings and roundtable sessions • Participate in daily huddles and LEAN problem-solving activities • Maintain focus during work and meetings, including keeping the camera on during Teams calls • Help organize the medical coding department’s shared drive • Perform other duties assigned by the manager

🎯 Requirements

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required • Coding certification / credential through AHIMA or AAPC and good standing required • Prior experience in hospital medical coding preferred • Prior experience with 3M 360 and EPIC systems preferred • Assessment score of 80% or above required; new coders may be considered with a higher assessment score • High proficiency with computers, navigating multiple systems, and troubleshooting • Ability to work independently in a fully remote position • Ability to maintain a remote coding work area that protects confidential health information • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding classification systems • Detail-oriented and efficient while maintaining productivity
