📋 Description

• Apply mandated inpatient coding and classification systems and official resources to select diagnostic, procedural (PCS), and other healthcare service codes • Select and sequence codes to ensure optimal legally entitled reimbursement • Use a computerized encoding system for accurate inpatient facility coding • Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to ICD-10-CM/PCS, UHDDS, Medicare, Medicaid, and fiscal intermediary guidelines • Support complete and accurate reporting of healthcare data elements for reimbursement, value-based purchasing, administrative uses, population health, quality, patient safety, and research • Query physicians or qualified healthcare practitioners for clarification or additional documentation when health-record information is conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous • Advance coding knowledge through continuing education and meet continuing education requirements • Follow ethical and legal coding practices and foster trust in professional activities • Apply official coding rules and guidelines to accurately represent patient services on hospital claims • Comply with internal coding policies and procedures

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years of inpatient coding experience • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required • Coding certification or credential through AHIMA or AAPC, in good standing, required • Prior experience in hospital/inpatient medical coding preferred • Prior experience with 3M 360 and EPIC systems preferred • Score of 80% or above on the assessment; new coders may be considered with a higher assessment score • High proficiency in written and verbal communication • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS coding classification systems, and DRGs • Detail-oriented and efficient while maintaining productivity • Ability to comply with regulatory, documentation, official coding, and internal policy requirements • Ability to protect HIPAA Protected Health Information and other sensitive information
