• Manage a complex portfolio of sponsored programs from activation through close-out • Perform advanced budget performance and accounts receivable analysis, investigate variances, and develop corrective action plans • Review, approve, and prepare financial transactions in accordance with award terms, GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and institutional policies • Lead financial performance meetings with investigators, directors, cost center managers, and business partners • Monitor subawards and contracted service agreements, facilitate rebudgeting and no-cost extensions, manage personnel costing allocations, cost transfers, cost share, and cost overruns • Maintain compliance with grant, contract, clinical trial, sponsor, federal, state, local, and private-agency requirements • Manage invoicing, payment follow-up, cash recording, sponsor portals, payment profiles, invoices, and payment backup • Lead month-end close activities, prepare complex journal entries, and support monthly financial statements and reports • Prepare, analyze, and present complex financial reports, ad hoc reports, and analyses • Set up new projects in financial systems, including cost-reimbursement, fixed-price, milestone-based, and cost-share projects • Complete project closeout documentation, reconcile costs and payments, and close project cost centers • Apply regulations and internal controls and lead audit documentation gathering • Mentor and train junior Business Analysts • Contribute to policy and procedure development and process improvements • Perform other duties as assigned or requested
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or relevant experience and/or education in lieu of a bachelor’s degree • 5+ years of experience in relevant finance or accounting roles • Knowledge of accounting principles, budget planning, and financial analysis • Prior experience in grant, contract, and clinical trial financial administration • Knowledge of federal agency regulations, policies, procedures, Uniform Guidance, laws, and federal acquisition regulations applicable to research and sponsored programs • Deep understanding of financial management in a clinical trials setting • Expertise in research accounting, compliance, and auditing • Ability to assess, research, and resolve complex financial and compliance issues using sound judgment • Exceptional organizational and mathematical skills and ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to lead financial meetings and explain financial information • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to work independently, prioritize, manage large volumes of work, and meet tight deadlines • Advanced proficiency in financial software and adaptability to new technologies • Expert understanding of financial processes and controls, including reconciliations • Advanced MS Excel proficiency, including sorting, pivot tables, filtering, VLOOKUPs, subtotals, and basic formulas • Ability to interpret and implement complex regulations, procedures, and compliance standards • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion • Experience mentoring junior staff • Compliance with HIPAA, company privacy and information security policies, Code of Business Conduct, applicable laws, regulations, and training requirements • Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field • Preferred: Prior experience with clinical trial financial management and/or clinical research billing compliance and regulations
