• Lead a small team of actuaries and support their training and personal development • Ensure compliance with applicable Actuarial Standards of Practice • Manage pricing, forecasting, reserving, assumption development, financial experience evaluation, and trend-driver analysis • Develop and communicate actionable, strategic recommendations to leadership • Manage actuarial models for experience reporting, reserves and accruals, bid pricing/rate filings, forecasting, and contracting • Own actuarial processes within the company and with external vendors for assigned lines of business • Perform baseline analysis of expected future rate changes and work with federal and state agencies on rate filings when required • Oversee monthly IBNR reserve estimate development and review when required • Communicate process, project, goal, and task status and results to the leader • Perform other job-related instructions as requested
• Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, or a related field, or equivalent years of relevant work experience required • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) required • Prior supplemental-benefits experience preferred • Two to three years or more of management experience preferred • Two to three years or more of actuarial experience preferred • Strong database experience with SQL, SAS, or Access preferred • Managed care or healthcare experience preferred • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Excellent listening and critical-thinking skills • Strong interpersonal skills and high level of professionalism • Ability to manage, develop, and motivate staff • Ability to develop, prioritize, and accomplish goals • Ability to interact with all levels of management and external stakeholders • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail • Excellent auditing and peer-reviewing skills • Ability to work independently and within a team • Ability to analyze data, develop and maintain models, and report findings and conclusions • Sound business judgment when drawing conclusions and making recommendations • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint • Knowledge of SQL, SAS, R, Python, or other data-manipulation software • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) preferred • General office environment; may sit or stand for extended periods • May be required to travel less than 10% of the time
