📋 Description

• Review moderate to minimally complex ancillary medical records • Identify diagnoses to be coded and ensure conditions are documented, ordered by the provider, and appropriately sequenced • Assign ICD-10-CM codes using the encoder • Follow Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set, official coding and reporting, Coding Clinic, and hospital-specific guidelines • Verify medical necessity criteria using encoder edits and CMS policies • Resolve potential medical necessity denials by reviewing physician documentation and electronic-record orders • Verify Cerner billing-system charges for timeliness and accuracy • Communicate charge problems to the appropriate department manager or designee • Monitor the Prebill report and complete coding within required timelines • Participate in education and training as directed by the Coding Manager

🎯 Requirements

• CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCS-P, or CCA credential required • If CPC or CPC-A certified, AHIMA CCA credential required within 2 years of hire • CCS or CCS-P must be obtained within 2 years of hire for advancement to other coding positions • Coding experience in a medical center preferred • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements preferred • Understanding of APCs, modifiers, and accounts receivables preferred • Basic PC and PC maintenance skills required • Maintain coding credential through continuing education provided by CGHMC • Availability for Monday–Friday day shifts • 40 scheduled hours weekly
