📋 Description

• Design and build new features end to end, from technical design through production rollout • Design and implement backend architecture changes supporting long-term scalability • Investigate and resolve scalability bottlenecks under production-like load • Improve database migration safety and upgrade reliability through schema compatibility, background migrations, and safe rollback strategies • Own the backend side of issues surfaced by Coder operators and administrators • Document system design, implementation, and operational tradeoffs • Participate in code reviews, RFC-style design discussions, and on-call rotations • Collaborate with backend, platform, QA, engineering, and product teams to deliver reliable enterprise software

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant production experience with Go • Deep understanding of Go's concurrency model, including goroutines, channels, the sync package, and debugging race conditions under real-world load • Experience designing and operating relational databases in production, including schema design, migrations, and transactions • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Exceptional debugging and troubleshooting skills • Self-motivated, analytical approach to difficult technical challenges • Experience with infrastructure engineering (bonus) • Experience building or operating distributed systems at meaningful scale (bonus) • Curiosity about the latest developer tooling (bonus) • Backend stack: Go, Postgres, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana • CI/CD: GitHub Actions • General tools: GitHub, Slack, Discord, Notion
