📋 Description

• Build tools, automations, and applications supporting internal business needs across marketing, research, and workflow optimization • Design, test, and improve language-model-based workflows for classification, summarization, extraction, generation, and search support • Partner with Marketing, Product, Data Science, and broader business teams to translate needs into scalable solutions • Develop Python-based services, APIs, and internal tools integrating AI capabilities into workflows • Evaluate and refine system performance for quality, speed, reliability, and cost • Identify edge cases, improve system behavior, and contribute to applied AI development best practices • Stay current on the evolving AI landscape and evaluate tools and approaches for adoption

🎯 Requirements

• Prior internship experience in software engineering • Hands-on experience building LLM-based or applied AI workflows • Strong Python skills • Practical approach to building useful, reliable, and responsible solutions • Familiarity with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or Cursor • Ability to understand stakeholder needs and translate them into effective solutions • Comfort working across diverse projects and solving ambiguous problems • Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical partners • Preferred: familiarity with LangGraph/LangChain, Google ADK, or OpenAI Agent SDK • Preferred: familiarity with MLFlow, Arize, LangSmith, or similar evaluation frameworks • Preferred: familiarity with front-end prototyping • Candidates advancing to the first interview round must show photo ID on camera • Final interviews will be conducted in person at a Penguin Random House location
