📋 Description

• Develop, implement, and manage legislative and political strategies at state and local levels • Represent the association on state legislative and regulatory policy and political matters • Report to the Vice President of Government Relations • Co-lead the State Affairs Committee, including strategy development, budgeting, member coordination, and coordination with RISE State Affairs staff • Manage state and local issues affecting the pesticide industry within the assigned geographic area • Monitor, review, and analyze relevant state legislation and identify emerging policy issues • Develop legislative strategies and pursue successful outcomes • Communicate actions, strategies, and threats to CLA staff, leadership, and members • Represent the organization with state and local government officials and policymakers • Coordinate legislative strategy support across communications, legal, science, and regulatory functions • Oversee contract lobbyists and consultants, including lobbying, reporting, and ethics compliance • Build relationships with state legislative, regulatory, and political organizations • Create and deliver correspondence, presentations, testimony, policy positions, talking points, toolkits, grassroots alerts, briefings, reports, and backgrounders • Support State Affairs Committee meeting preparation, management, follow-up, staff coordination, and member needs • Perform other duties assigned by the Vice President

🎯 Requirements

• BA/BS degree in political science, communications, public relations, agriculture, environmental science, or a similar field • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related position • Prior work experience in state government relations required • Ability to produce effective writing, including distilling complex or technical information into concise and influential communications • Excellent organizational, issues management, and analytic skills • Proactive, self-directed approach • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with association members, allies, policymakers, lobbyists, coalitions, grassroots stakeholders, and teammates • Skilled and influential speaker and writer • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with legislators and staff, allied organizations, association members, and other industry leaders • Ability and motivation to learn technical and other knowledge about the pesticide industry • Flexibility, sound judgment, discretion, and political acumen • Problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure and in complex situations • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, legislative bill tracking tools, and social media • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
