Deep Fission is an advanced nuclear energy company developing a novel deployment architecture called Gravity™ that integrates established technologies — pressurized water reactors, geothermal energy-transfer components, and deep borehole drilling — to place reactor systems a mile underground. The design uses hydrostatic pressure from a deep water column to support operating pressure and cooling, applies geothermal-style surface energy transfer to turbines, and aims for rapid, low-footprint deployments (a stated 6-month target for a single reactor deployment and a 2027–2028 commercial operation goal). The company reports an 18. 5 GW commercial pipeline via letters of intent with power-site partners, has moved prototype hardware (reactor canister) to a Kansas site, and is engaging with regulators and investors through public filings and offerings.

📋 Description

• Lead the interpretation, decomposition, and application of DOE and NRC regulatory requirements applicable to Deep Fission’s reactor development program. • Collaborate with engineering and safety teams to define the technical approach for demonstrating regulatory compliance, including development of structured compliance matrices and execution plans. • Develop and document licensing strategies, authorization plans, and regulator engagement plans tailored to a phased DOE to NRC licensing approach. • Coordinate technical inputs and author licensing deliverables, including safety case summaries, design basis documentation, and regulatory correspondence. • Act as a regulatory subject matter expert in cross-functional reviews, design milestones, and strategic planning discussions. • Lead or contribute to regulatory interactions including DOE and NRC briefings, audits, pre-application engagements, and comment resolution. • Stay current with evolving U.S. licensing frameworks for advanced reactors and proactively identify opportunities to influence or adapt regulatory strategy accordingly. • Support program planning, risk analysis, and configuration management related to licensing activities. • Maintain strong familiarity with AI-enabled tools for regulatory document management, structured compliance tracking, and analysis automation.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in nuclear reactor licensing, regulatory affairs, nuclear safety analysis, or relevant work. • Proven experience supporting DOE reactor authorization or NRC Part 50/52 licensing with demonstrated ability to translate to DOE frameworks, with direct DOE authorization experience preferred. • Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks relevant to advanced reactor designs. • Experience translating engineering requirements into actionable regulatory deliverables. • Strong technical writing skills and familiarity with the structure and expectations of licensing documents and correspondence. • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field, or commensurate experience • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. • U.S. citizenship required. Must be able to meet Export Control requirements under 10 CFR 810.

🏖️ Benefits

• Deep Fission is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
