• Accurately complete patient accounts according to departmental protocols, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements • Complete pre-admission, admission, pre-registration, and registration functions • Verify insurance requirements and inform patients of financial liability before services • Arrange payment options and screen patients for government funding sources • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits and obtain prior authorizations • Facilitate payment sources for uninsured patients • Research accident-related liability and determine appropriate payment sources • Admit, register, and pre-register patients using accurate demographic and financial data • Resolve insurance claim rejections and denials • Calculate and collect patient cash payments and reconcile daily cash deposits • Evaluate diagnoses for compliance with Local Medicare Review Policy • Compile departmental statistics for budgeting and reporting • Explain bills and implement collection actions according to policy • Assist financially responsible persons with payment arrangements and make financial counseling referrals • Determine third-party sponsorship needs and process patients accordingly • Review insurance policies and third-party sponsorship materials • Complete managed care waiver forms for out-of-network patients • Update billing systems and enter or update referrals • Refer patients to Manufacturer Drug programs when needed • Greet and assist patients and visitors, explain policies, and resolve problems • Gather documentation for inquiries and complaints • Communicate with insurance carriers regarding clinical information, coverage, and payment issues • Assist with departmental coverage as requested
• Knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally required through a high school education • Additional training or working knowledge of related business • Two years of experience working in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office, or billing and collections; OR an associate's degree in a healthcare-related field and one year of experience working with the public; OR a bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with the public • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to analyze data, perform multiple tasks, and work independently • Ability to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers, and supervisors • Ability to understand and comply with policies and procedures • Working knowledge of compliance principles • No degrees, licensures, or certifications required
