📋 Description

• Improve enterprise-grade retail software at scale • Set technical direction and make architecture decisions that shape system evolution • Align teams around technical direction • Scope, sharpen, and stress-test customer-facing features with stakeholders • Meet customers to understand their workflows and pain points • Turn customer insights into better products • Partner across the organization on unified solutions for cross-team problems • Mentor engineers and help them grow • Help plan, estimate, de-risk, break down, and sequence major work • Set standards for engineering judgment, code quality, and craft • Improve the platform's performance, reliability, and quality • Shape engineering practices for AI-enabled development

🎯 Requirements

• The depth and influence sought usually show up around 8+ years in, though the employer is flexible on years of experience • Track record of building and running production systems at scale • Deep, hands-on experience in at least one modern backend stack • Experience designing scalable data models across relational and non-relational stores • Clean, tested, maintainable code • Routinely use LLMs for researching systems, diagnosing issues, planning solutions, writing and reviewing code, and monitoring shipped work • Comfortable and excited about an agentic-first environment and using AI to ship better solutions faster and safer • Ability to raise the team's baseline through repeatable engineering practices • Ability to improve team output and judgment • Ability to scope and break down cross-team problems • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining broader technical direction • Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly to engineering, product, and leadership • Ownership of outcomes from ambiguity through production • Cannabis industry experience, POS, ecommerce, payments, retail/commerce technology, AWS cloud-native infrastructure, third-party integrations, or AI-assisted engineering workflows are bonuses
