📋 Description

• Design, build, ship, and support features across the Evaluation Ruby on Rails application from product conversation through production support • Build and improve AI-powered features by integrating LLMs into user workflows and designing prompts, safeguards, and quality checks • Build and maintain reliable, high-quality data integrations between Evaluation and other systems • Lead roadmap improvements including configuration simplification, technical-debt reduction, and application modernization • Write clean, high-quality, testable, secure, and maintainable code • Build and operate AWS infrastructure using CI/CD and infrastructure as code • Troubleshoot production issues end to end across the application and infrastructure • Meet FERPA, state student-privacy, and WCAG accessibility requirements • Use and help shape AI-assisted development practices, including shared conventions, reusable prompts, instructions, and safety guardrails • Partner with Product Management on requirements, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and scalable secure implementations • Mentor teammates through code review, pairing, and technical planning • Write clear system documentation • Participate in feature branches, release-branch workflows, frequent deployments, and feature-flagged rollouts

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience • 5+ years building and operating production web applications • Recent hands-on Ruby on Rails experience, including Ruby, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS • Strong relational database skills with MySQL or similar, including schema design, indexing, query performance, and safe migrations in a multi-tenant application • Hands-on experience writing automated Rails tests at unit and integration levels, such as RSpec • Experience deploying, running, and debugging applications in AWS, including containers, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code • Solid grasp of secure web development, including OWASP Top 10, authentication and authorization, input validation, and secrets management • Daily professional use of AI-assisted development tools beyond autocomplete for multi-step development work • Skill at directing AI tools with clear specifications, context, small checkable steps, tests, and code review • Sound judgment about AI and data safety, especially student and educator data • Track record of owning ambiguous work end to end • Comfort working in a mature codebase while improving it without stalling delivery • Excellent written and verbal communication for async, cross-time-zone teamwork • Experience working in an Agile team, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives • Core availability during US Central Time business hours • Authorized to work in the United States • Preferred: production LLM-powered features, managed AI services, AI development-process tools, test expansion, Rails frontend modernization, WCAG 2.1 AA remediation, K-12/public-sector or SIS data experience, and mentoring experience
